Trichotillomania
Trichotillomania is a compulsive behavior disorder that involves pulling one’s hair out on body and head. This can lead to bald spots and in severe cases all the hair on one’s body being plucked. It is thought to be a rare form of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. The standard medical treatment is to use neurotransmitter re-uptake inhibitors. This approach has a low success rate and these drugs further deplete brain neurotransmitters, thus making the problem worse over time and can also cause a higher risk of suicide.
With the nutritional supplementation protocols no treatment failures have been reported to NeuroResearch clinics in patients compliant with care. Most trichotillomania patients are 18 years of age and younger although adults suffering from the problem are not uncommon. Treatment of trichotillomania in adults is equally safe and effective.
Trichotillomania treatment begins with a Level One neurotransmitter replenishment dosage of nutritional supplements after consultation with Dr. Collins. Children under 16 years of age begin at ½ of this dosage. After one week of taking the Level One Dosage a follow-up consultation with Dr. Collins is done to assess the response. If sufficient improvement is not noticed we may go to an increased Level Two Dosage. Follow-up consults can continue to refine the dosage needed for ideal results. Sometimes an at-home urine test is necessary for precise dosing in difficult cases.
